On social media, official club partner Four Lads Had a Dream expressed their reaction to the appointment of Steven Davis as interim manager at Rangers.

According to the official Rangers website, the appointment was made on Sunday (1 October) after Michael Beale was fired following Saturday’s disastrous 3-1 loss to Aberdeen.

The Ibrox senior midfielder will head the Scottish side for the time being, with Alex Rae, Steven Smith, Brian Gilmour, and Colin Stewart.

On Monday afternoon (2 October), after the Rangers’ official Twitter account broadcast Davis’ first interview as manager, Four Lads tweeted their reaction:

“Do not let him down.

“Get the wins required.”

The decision to break company with Beale comes as little surprise, given that the Gers had just suffered a terribly dismal 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen.

Such outcomes are unacceptable, especially given what happened at Ibrox and the Dons’ struggles this season.

Certainly, Beale had a four-game winning streak prior to this weekend’s result, but the fans and, as it has now been verified, the board were never satisfied, costing Beale his job.

Rangers have some important games coming up, both domestically and in Europe, but appointing a current player with no managerial experience at such a high level is shocking and might be costly.

Celtic are now seven points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, and Davis’ lack of experience and pedigree might see Brendan Rodgers’ men run away with it, putting their next appointment in a difficult situation given the demands at Ibrox to compete for the league.Rangers NI star Steven Davis hasn't seen family since title win

Some promising names have been put into the mix, like AZ Alkmaar’s Pascal Jansen and Kevin Muscat, but the club has already said that they will deliberate their decision over the international break.

Things are looking dark at Ibrox right now, and few Rangers fans will be optimistic about the club’s decision to employ Davis for the time being, but Four Lads is correct: the players must now pull their weight if results and performances are to improve.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have emerged as a “live option” to sign a league-leading manager.
