Gunn has emerged as Norwich City’s go-to keeper at Carrow Road. He took up the starting spot from Tim Krul last season and hasn’t given it up since, starting every Championship game this season.

Krul left for Luton Town in the Premier League, and George Long was hired as his replacement. The latter, on the other hand, has only seen action in the Carabao Cup, with Gunn wearing the number one shirt.

Now, however, manager David Wagner may be obliged to make a change.

According to the Pink Un, Wagner has revealed that a late decision on Gunn will be made after he had an injection for a shoulder problem. Long will make his first Championship start for the Canaries if he is not declared ready. Wagner stated:

Player of the Week - Tim Krul | Premier Skills English

“We’ll have to wait and see.”

“We didn’t do much after the game yesterday; we just recovered.” We’ll see what happens after training this afternoon [Friday].

“I’ve heard George is doing well after his illness.” We’ll have to wait and watch how Gunny handles the matter following the injection he needed.

“We knew he’d miss some days of training and that he’d need a good reintegration into team training.” It wasn’t many other days, only four or five, but we’ll see how he reacts. Then we’ll make a late decision.”

Norwich, on the other hand, is currently dealing with new injury issues.

It remains to be seen whether Gunn is fit to play against Birmingham City. If he is, you’d think he’ll keep his starting spot and Long will have to settle for a seat on the replacements bench once more.

If the starter is forced to sit out this game, Long can fill in admirably. He has extensive Championship experience, having played 85 games in the division. However, the 29-year-old has spent the majority of his career in League One, making over 150 appearances.

Gunn, on the other hand, should be ready to go. He’s established himself as a crucial player under Wagner, and losing him for any length of time would be devastating.
