Gonçalo Guedes, on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, is ready to return to action.
The winger hasn’t played since May 21st, when he suffered a knee injury that required surgery, but he should be back on the field this week, according to Record.

Guedes had already been exercising with Benfica’s team, but as manager Roger Schmidt stated, there’s a considerable difference between practicing and playing a game.

The Eagles appear to have saved him until the best possible time when Benfica face Porto in the Estádio da Luz on Friday.

That’s fantastic news for the Wolves, who have obviously been keeping a close eye on the issue.
Guedes had already been loaned to Benfica by Molineux in January of this year. Because he was injured and required surgery, the Eagles requested that his suspension be prolonged in the summer.
Wolves were stuck since, with the player recovering from surgery, few teams would make an offer for him, so they loaned him back to the Eagles for another year.

Now it’s up to Guedes to show himself at Benfica and possibly persuade them to offer him a permanent deal at the conclusion of the season.

Wolves’ next Premier League game is against Manchester City on Saturday.

Wanderers are having a difficult time right now, having only taken four points from their first six games.

Wolves were knocked out of the Carabao Cup last night by Ipswich Town.

Wolves were 2-0 up after a strong first 20 minutes.

But then came a terrible 70, and Ipswich came back to win 3-2.

What could have been a confidence-boosting victory turned out to be a gut-wrenching failure.

Wolves must now aim to recover against perhaps the best team in club football right now.

It’s going to be a tough game, but O’Neil might be able to improve his chances by doing something he hasn’t done in the Premier League before.

O’Neil should start with a back three against Manchester City, bringing on Toti Gomes.
So far in the Premier League, O’Neil has always started Craig Dawson and Max Kilman together.

This has not been very successful.

Both have struggled in their first six games, and one wonders if it’s time to switch to a back three, especially against a team like City.

They will dominate the ball, and Wolves will require that steadiness at the back.

As a result, O’Neil might contemplate starting with a back three for the first time this season. This needs to be the team to accomplish it against, or things may turn ugly fast.

Toti has established himself as a reliable defender since joining Wolves.

Despite scoring against Ipswich on Tuesday, he had a poor performance.
