Norwich City were defeated 2-1 against Fulham in the Carabao Cup Friday night.
Norwich City were defeated by Premier League Fulham in the third round of the Carabao Cup yesterday night, thanks to goals from Carlos Vinicius and Alex Iwobi either side of halftime.

Borja Sainz came off the bench to score on his Canaries debut, but it was merely a consolation goal as David Wagner’s side exited the cup.

But it was a good, as Wagner also gave teenage centre-back Jaden Warner his first-team debut, which he played the entire 90 minutes.

The Englishman is a product of the Canaries’ development academy, and Wagner praised his debut, calling it’very nice’.

After the game, Warner praised his centre-back partner for the night, Ben Gibson.

Warner told Gibson’s club:

“To be fair, he was talking to me and offering me recommendations throughout the game. That communication is crucial, and he’s one of the team’s finest at it. It was a pleasant experience.

“I’d like to get more minutes; it’s fun to be around it, and I just want to be more involved.” That is the goal.”
Norwich City has a history of elevating junior players to the main squad. And they’ve had some recent success stories with people like Max Aarons and Andrew Omobamidele.

Warner also had a tried and trusted centre-back partner in Gibson to lead him through the game, which would have made things easier for the young Norwich player.

As a result, Warner has some good names to aspire to emulate. It was a solid debut against a very strong Fulham side, and he’s certainly given Wagner some food for thought as the 2023/24 season progresses.

Norwich City play Birmingham City at home this weekend in the Championship.
