On Wednesday, Inter Milan suffered their first Serie A defeat of the season, falling 2-1 at home to Sassuolo, as controversial striker Victor Osimhen starred for Napoli despite an apparent breach with the champions. Inter entered the game with a perfect record of five victories in five games.
“After a good first period in which we should have scored more than one goal, we lost focus, particularly after the equalizer,” Inter coach Simone Inzaghi remarked.
“Losing in front of our home crowd hurts us, we have to understand what happened, even if the schedule, with our next match on Saturday, doesn’t really give us time to take a step back.”
After two defeats and two draws, Napoli returned to winning ways, with Osimhen playing a key role in a 4-1 victory over Udinese.
After 39 minutes, the Nigerian striker scored his fourth goal of the season, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia broke a long goal drought in the second half.Osimhen, the top scorer in Serie A last season, cut a controversial figure at the weekend when he expressed his displeasure at being taken off by coach Rudy Garcia in the 0-0 draw with Bologna. On Tuesday, his agent threatened Napoli with legal action for having published a video on the club’s TikTok account, since deleted, mocking the striker for missing a penalty in that game.
“There have been a lot of things to manage in recent days, both on the sporting and other levels, especially on TikTok,” Garcia chuckled.”But I can assure you that Victor loves this jersey and that he is invested in 100% in our project.”
