Alfredo Pedulla believes Inter Milan’s opponents of signing defender Benjamin Pavard were “incompetent” un their judgment.

In his piece for the Italian channel SportItalia, the journalist targeted a veiled criticism at journalist Ivan Zazzaroni in particular for his reservations about signing the Frenchman for a sum of around €30 million.

Pavard, a 27-year-old French international, was easily one of Inter’s most important signings of the summer.

Pavard was, in reality, one of the most high-profile signings in Serie A.

The Nerazzurri spent no money to bring in the Frenchman from Bayern Munich. And the fact that he has won the World Cup with France and the Champions League with Real Madrid.

Bayern certainly demonstrates why.

However, Inter’s decision to make the signing was not universally praised.

Some saw the Frenchman as an unimpressive big-money signing for Inter.

Another issue was that Pavard was only a year away from the end of his contract with Bayern. Some argued that Inter didn’t need to pay a high amount to sign the 27-year-old because he’d be available on a free transfer just a year later.

But Inter secured their man.

Pavard’s Inter career is still in its early stages. But, based on his first few of games, the Frenchman appears to be a good fit for the team.

In a recent television interview, the journalist questioned whether the 27-year-old was worth the amount Inter spent for him.

“Inter finally got Pavard in the end, by paying a fee that in my opinion was far too high,” he said. And I don’t think they’re much better in the end.”

Pedulla, on the other hand, thinks this is a ridiculous criticism.

He states that “In the past 48 hours we’ve heard that Pavard is an overrated players, and above all, overpriced.”

“This came from a man who for the last five years has been off base about everything,” he says.

“Now, there ‘ no doubt that Pavard cost a lot considering that he was a year away from the end of his contract,” noted Pedulla.

“But knowing Bayern it wouldn’t have been possible to do otherwise.”

“The consideration that a 27-year-old defender is not worth €30 million is something that the incompetent concern themselves with,” adds Pedulla.

“And the fault lies not with those who say such things, but with those who allow them to be said.”
