The medical staff at #West Brom will be hoping that as few people as possible, if any, visit the club treatment facility.
West Brom will experience player absences throughout the course of the season, just like every other EFL team. These 46-game campaigns are taxing and demanding, testing the health and fitness of those who attempt to fight their way through them and emerge victorious.
In addition to the possibility of suspension, there is the danger of absence due to health or fitness. You will immediately miss matches if you receive a red card, and a ban is also possible if you receive enough yellow cards over time. Albion and Carlos Corberan will try to manage the demanding schedule that lies ahead of them in 2023–2024 and keep as fit a group as they can throughout the upcoming months.
The current situation in the treatment room is as follows…
Erik Pieters
Muscle tightness due to injury. Pieters, who had started each of the three games since the schedule resumed, was helped off the field during the scoreless draw with Millwall on Saturday.
“No, he is tight, the muscle is very tight,” Corberan remarked. He was unable to carry on. I don’t know for sure yet, but it appears to be a non-injury. I wasn’t prepared for Maja to be hurt and for my striker to miss eight weeks of action. Since we have a week to prepare for the next game but then it’s Saturday, Tuesday, and Friday, hopefully none of our players get injured. We can have the most challenging week possible this week.
Hopefully Corberan’s preliminary assessment is accurate and Pieters is available to him when they travel to Preston.
Josh Maja
Damage to the ankle. At the conclusion of the scoreless draw at Bristol City, Maja needed assistance leaving the pitch, and spectators saw him exiting Ashton Gate wearing a protective boot. Beginning the day of the game, he will be out for eight weeks.
The goal right now is on developing the guys we already have, according to Corberan. It’s true that we weren’t able to bring the man who could serve as a third striker; as a result, we must play with players who, if Asante isn’t on the pitch, can serve as strikers.
Maja’s anticipated return date is at the earliest on the opposite side of the international break in November.
Adam Reach
Injury to the quads. Reach staggered off the pitch against Burton in the preseason after relapsing with the quad injury that had laid him out in April.
What Corberan said: “It’s true that Reach has a certain level of maturity with which he is handling the situation, but long-term injuries are always emotionally challenging to manage. It’s unfortunate because it was a great aspect of the way he entered the preseason, the work he was doing in the summer, and the spirit he had in the opening matches.
“Now imagine that we have played the past games with five; he is ideal to play with five, in my opinion. I think his best position is as a wing back. Imagine how significant he may have been in relation to the shape that we have been working on over the past few weeks. The participants must adjust and control their emotions. There is no question that he will return stronger.
After undergoing surgery, Reach won’t be able to play again until at the earliest December.
Daryl Dike
The Achilles is hurt. Dike’s injury, the third significant one during his 15-month stay at Albion, occurred in the first half of Albion’s most recent victory at Stoke City. He will be out for a number of months as a result. Since then, his procedure was successful.
The intention was to have Daryl return in late November or early December, according to Tony Strudwick. He is making good progress, and the surgery went quite well. He travelled to the US. He’s back, and his attitude and effort have been outstanding.
The process with Dike will be completed in late December or early January, Corberan continued. Until January, I prepared the squad without considering Dike. Although we intend to have two strikers on the team, this is our current lineup.
Estimated return date: It’s hard to know exactly when Dike will be back wearing an Albion shirt, but what is for sure is that it won’t be until December at the absolute earliest. With such injuries though, it could be that we’ve seen the last of Dike in 2023.
Martin Kelly
The Achilles is hurt. Dike’s injury, the third significant one during his 15-month stay at Albion, occurred in the first half of Albion’s most recent victory at Stoke City. He will be out for a number of months as a result. Since then, his procedure was successful.

He’s gone away and he’s come back in a really good space.
Estimated return date: Kelly was expected to return to first-team training in August.
