The 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract at Vicarage Road and the Hornets say he will bring a “powerful physical presence” to their front line.
This is Watford’s seventh signing of the summer, but the first since the arrival of midfielder Giorgi Chakvetadze on August 2.
Rajovic has been given the number 9 shirt and could make his debut in the home game against Blackburn on Saturday.
He started his career with Brondby and Randers, but made a big impact at Naestved Boldklub, scoring 30 goals in 58 matches.
The move to Kalmar took place last December and he has scored eight goals in 22 matches in the current Allsvenskan season. “Over the past two days, the dialogue has become increasingly tense and we have now agreed on a permanent transfer to Mileta,” Kalmar sporting director Jorgen Petersson told the club’s website.
“If we look at the financial settlement, this is one of the biggest transfers for Kalmar FF.”
He added:
“He trained hard and intentionally improved every day, which paid off. Although some people around him were skeptical when he signed, he quickly showed that he will become an important part of Kalmar FF.”
One of those areas is the striker position, but so far, Watford have not been able to sign the striker the Hornets boss prefers.
Indeed, Vakoun Bayo was the attacking starter in the club’s first three matches, and although he scored one league goal, it was clear the Hornets needed more.
They have been consistently linked with strikers during this time and now another new name has appeared on their radar, with talks going well. Watford contacted Mileta Rajovic
Rumors began to appear on social networks and Watford FC forums that the club would be looking for a striker on Monday afternoon, and this was later confirmed by the official media.
Indeed, according to The Athletic, Watford hopes to reach an agreement to recruit Mileta Rajovic in the next 24 to 48 hours.
If signed during this time, Rajovic could be available for this weekend’s match against Blackburn Rovers, although the club tend to make new signings easier this summer.
The Athletic also reported that Rajovic has been named as the club’s number one target in their search for a striker and that would happen if the deal goes ahead. he will sign a permanent long-term contract with Vicarage Road.
