Latest Nottingham Forest news as goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey withdraws from the Wales squad through injury
Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has withdrawn from the Wales squad with injury.
Wales are due to play against Lativa in a Euro 2024 qualifier on Monday, but it has been confirmed that the 36-year-old goalkeeper will not travel to the game because of an “unspecified” injury.
It comes after Hennessey was an unused substitute for Wales’ 0-0 friendly draw against South Korea last week, with Leicester stopper Danny Ward playing in goal ahead of him.
According to BBC Sport, both Hennessey and Ipswich’s Wes Burns have pulled out of the squad for Monday’s game due to injury.

The shot-stopper required an operation after suffering a knee injury while on international duty with Wales in the summer. He is now close to a return, making the trip to Chelsea and being involved in the goalkeepers’ warm-up even though he was not in the match squad.
“Wayne is back in training. He’s close to being fully fit,” head coach Steve Cooper confirmed recently
Hennessey previously explained: “I had the operation, which went well. It’s just about getting fitness in me now. I missed pre-season, so I need to play some in-house games first.
It was disappointing, but the surgery needed to be done. Hopefully I can come back stronger and in a good place.”
Hennessey is now the third-choice goalkeeper at Forest following the arrivals of Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos in the summer transfer window. Turner signed from Arsenal, while Vlachodimos was a deadline day addition from Benfica.
Last season, Hennessey made four appearances in the Premier League for Forest. Loanee Dean Henderson struggled with injury and was replaced in the winter by another loan player in Keylor Navas. Hennessey also played four games in the League Cup last term.
