Sam Greenwood has spoken candidly about his current professional path, which has led him to Middlesbrough after he left his hometown club Sunderland.

As he considers his brief career thus far, which has taken him back to the North East with Middlesbrough, Sam Greenwood has acknowledged that leaving Sunderland as a teenager was difficult.

Middlesbrough sign Sam Greenwood

Despite the fact that the 21-year-old has played a part for Daniel Farke’s team this season, the Whites made the decision to allow Greenwood depart on loan before the deadline, and he will now join Middlesbrough for the duration of the season.

The versatile England youth international will give Michael Carrick additional options as Boro looks to turn around what has been a very difficult start to the season. He can play as a striker or in midfield.

Greenwood opens up on Sunderland exit

Despite his youth, Greenwood has experienced a lot in football. He made the decision to leave his childhood team Sunderland for Arsenal as a teenager, but then switched the Emirates Stadium for Leeds United.

And in an interview with the Northern Echo, Greenwood discussed his career path that led him to the Riverside Stadium and admitted that his decision to leave the Black Cats was not an easy one.
“Arsenal came in for me, and Sunderland was a little bit struggling at the time, so I got moved. Moving away from your family at that point, especially from me, can be difficult. I had never left the North East.

truly, so it may be challenging. However, I eventually adjusted to it and had fun with it.

It was quite difficult to leave Arsenal, but Bielsa is a genius at what he does, in my opinion. He maintains his distance from the players while maintaining an unreal level of expertise without developing a close bond with them. The level of training is very high. To be able to survive each day, you must have incredible mental fortitude.

“I’ve had a terrific time at Leeds. It has been so much fun. I’m really thrilled to be playing for Middlesbrough right now, though. I am aware of the size of this club and the big fan base they enjoy. I am eager to get started.

Was this a good signing by Middlesbrough?

Leeds United complete Sam Greenwood signing - Leeds United

Greenwood has already given fans a brief sight of himself in a Boro jersey by substituting in during the team’s loss to QPR, but he will undoubtedly establish himself throughout the course of the year.

Greenwood has demonstrated talent throughout his time at Leeds, but he still has to find his optimum position and accrue playing time, both of which should happen at Boro.

It will be intriguing to observe how the forward’s loan develops because he is keen to demonstrate his abilities at this level.

What next for Middlesbrough?

The Teesside team, who made the playoffs last year, has had a terrible start, as they are currently last in the league.

However, the international break has come at the perfect time since Carrick can now regularly work with the majority of his team, which includes numerous new additions.

Next Saturday, when Boro travels to Blackburn, Greenwood will likely play a role.
