Aston Villa agree to sign Freddie Lawrie in record-breaking deal
According to information cited by Football Insider, Aston Villa and teenage wonder Freddie Lawrie of Port Vale Vale have reached an agreement.
After an agreement between the two clubs, the centre midfielder is about to set the club record sale for a schoolboy player.
The Under-15s academy player has drawn interest from several Premier League teams as a result of his outstanding underage performances.
The battle to recruit Lawrie has moved Villa ahead of other Premier League clubs.
Following Michael Mills’ switch to Newcastle last month, Lawrie is poised to become the second player from Port Vale’s academy to secure a high-paying move to the Premier League.
After three games this season, Aston Villa’s Under-18 team, which competes at the highest level, is now third in the U18 Premier League.
In the 2020–21 season, the club’s youth programme also succeeded in winning the FA Youth Cup, defeating Liverpool’s young players 2-1.
Academy alums in Unai Emery’s senior squad include Tim Iroegbunam and Jacob Ramsey.
After permanently departing Aston Villa, Cameron Archer, Jack Grealish, Aaron Ramsey, and Carney Chukwuemeka all play Premier League football elsewhere.
Aston Villa has had a mixed start to the 2023–24 season at the senior level.
Despite suffering significant losses on the road at Liverpool and Newcastle, Villa is still in the top ten after defeating Everton and Burnley.
Later this month, Emery’s team will begin play in the Europa Conference League group stage.
They were placed in Group E together with AZ Alkmaar, Legia Warsaw, and Zrinjski.
