According to Ian Evatt, Bolton Wanderers will review the 28-year-old’s transfer position in January.

Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt has stated that the team will’re-evaluate’ Declan John’s situation while he is on loan at Salford City in the January transfer window.
After sliding down the pecking order under Evatt, Bolton Wanderers left-back John made a last-minute loan move to League Two team Salford City in the transfer window. This move gave him a chance to gain regular game time away from the Trotters.

The Wanderers manager was open about the fact that he was one of the candidates who became available in the closing hours of the transfer window, so it’s hoped he can have an impact on the Ammies.

Evatt has now shared information about his loan withdrawal and the plan moving forward to January.

Evatt revealed that, in addition to Salford, another League Two team was interested, as reported by The Bolton News. John will be allowed to go until January when his position will be reviewed. He stated:

Declan’s availability wasn’t a secret, and we asked clubs to indicate their interest, but to be honest, there wasn’t much of a response.

“Salford and another League Two club were brought up in the final stages of the transfer window, and as we all know, money is quite scarce at that level.

“We decided to let him go out on loan until January, at which point we can reassess our choice.

“That was basically how it ended up and it was also why we didn’t involve him in any of the cup games because it still gives us some flexibility of him going somewhere else in January if things don’t work out there or here.”

John is eager to contribute to Salford City in a positive way. He has demonstrated his ability as a reliable player at the League One level in the past, and that background should serve him well while playing for the Ammies.

If the 28-year-old’s time with Neil Wood’s team doesn’t turn out as planned, a chance to reevaluate in January should work for everyone. If there are any injuries or lapses in performance, they will be able to locate him a new club, whether temporary or long-term, or bring him back into the fold.

Salford will undoubtedly want to keep John on through the rest of the season if he succeeds there. However, if he continues to fall out of favour under Evatt, impressive performances in League Two may very likely spark attention from other leagues.
