‘We were going to’: Angus Kinnear suggests Leeds are genuinely about signing £18m striker this summer

Leeds is truly interested in bringing in a £18 million striker this summer, according to Angus Kinnear.

Going into this summer, Leeds United was in need of a new striker.

Leeds needed a new center-forward this season since Rodrigo Moreno left the club and Patrick Bamford was having trouble staying healthy.
Despite having other choices on the table, the Whites ultimately decided to sign Swansea’s Joel Piroe after a stellar Championship campaign.

In fact, according to Angus Kinnear of The Square Ball Podcast, Leeds were interested in signing Cameron Archer in addition to Piroe. However, the former Aston Villa striker finally moved to the Premier League after being acquired by Sheffield United for £18 million.

Archer wanted

Kinnear identified Archer and Piroe as targets for this summer.

The 49ers’ assumption of leadership and selection of the most productive management in recent memory. We believed that showing that we were going to make an investment in the team, that we were going to keep players like Summerville and Willy and that we were going to go out and sign a top Championship center-forward, whether it was Cameron Archer or Joel Piroe, would have influenced people, especially when you considered the loan options available for them, Kinnear said.

Later in the episode, Kinnear talked once again about Archer.

“Let’s look at someone like Cameron Archer. He has previously been on a loan in the Championship, and he doesn’t want to go on another one. He wants a permanent home, and while we were willing to give it to him, he prefers to play in the Premier League. But the fact that we’re not there is a concern for these players,” Kinnear said. “I believe Leeds have a better chance than Sheffield United of being in the Premier League regularly over the next five years.Aston Villa: Cameron Archer now surely set for first team role this season

Difficult
Being a Championship club has its severe realities.

Although Leeds is a sizable club, you cannot compete with the big boys if you are not competing in the top division of football.

Archer is a player that want to appear on the largest stage. He will be keeping an eye on the England team and is aware that a successful Premier League campaign can catapult his career to the next level.

Leeds won’t be able to compete with Premier League teams for these kinds of players as long as they are in the second division.
