3 free agents Derby County considered to replace Warne’s after transfer admission

Derby County boss Paul Warne hasn’t ruled out the possibility of signing some free agents following the end of the transfer window.

Derby County could look to bring in some more players to bolster their ranks

Warne has told DerbyshireLive: “There’s something out there that I think I could get.  Whether I can get where that player wants me to get are two different things.”

Here is a look at three targets they should potentially look at…

Luke Amos

QPR cut ties with the former Tottenham Hotspur man when his contract expired at the end of last season and he has since been weighing up his options. He joined the Hoops in 2020 and went on to make 60 appearances for the Championship side in all competitions, chipping in with six goals.

The former England youth international rose up through the ranks at Spurs and played once for their first-team. He also had loan spells away at Southend United and Stevenage in the Football League to get some experience under his belt.

Ben Heneghan

He would add more competition and depth to Derby’s defensive department if they decide to make a move for him on a free transfer. The centre-back saw his deal at Sheffield Wednesday run out at the end of June and wasn’t handed an extension by the South Yorkshire outfit.

Heneghan, who has been on the books at Chester, Motherwell, AFC Wimbledon and Sheffield United in the past, was part of the Owls’ side who won promotion from League One in the last campaign under their former manager Darren Moore.

Brandon Barker

The winger would give the Rams another option in attack ahead of the rest of the season. He left Omonia Nicosia earlier this summer and will be weighing up his next move.

Barker, 26, is a product of the Manchester City academy. He has also had stints at Rangers and Reading in the past and needs to find a new permanent home.
