Daniel Farke has revealed that Jaidon Anthony was “desperate” to join Leeds United before the transfer window closed, having made the loan switch on deadline day.
The 23-year-old joined the ranks at Elland Road after Luis Sinisterra made the loan switch to the Vitality Stadium, with Anthony viewed as a replacement for the Colombian.
Anthony has made three appearances for the Cherries this season in the Premier League and was a crucial part of the Bournemouth team that won promotion to the top flight and then secured their place under Gary O’Neil last season.
Speaking about the transfer, as quoted by Leeds Live (4 September), Farke said: “I think with Jaidon Anthony, we’ve found the best possible option because he’s a proven Championship player. Brilliant lad, also really desperate to be here.
“He’s still an age where he can improve. You can’t compare him with Luis because he was a proven international player and Jaidon is still young, we want to improve and want to work with him but he has also lots of quality and lots of potential to work with him.”
Whoever was going to come in to replace Sinisterra following his dramatic switch on deadline day was going to have big shoes to fill, but Anthony genuinely seems like a player who is capable of having a positive impact at Elland Road this season.
At only 23, he has plenty of experience both in the Premier League and the Championship and will provide a level of experience, well beyond his years in a squad that has a lot of young and inexperienced players, alongside some older heads.
Farke’s options out wide are incredibly strong, with Wilfried Gnonto, Dan James and Cyrsencio Summerville all already in place so while losing Sinsiterra is a blow, as he could be one of the best players in the division, the Whites do have strength in depth.
