Celtic Net Spend summer transfer window 2023/24

There were numerous transactions made both inside and outside of Celtic during the summer transfer window. Brendan Rodgers has welcomed nine new players to Celtic Park, despite the opinion of some supporters that the Bhoys might have strengthened more.

Inevitably, the amount of money spent by the board will be evaluated—positively or negatively—by watchers and supporters, especially in light of the likelihood that the upcoming annual financial figures will reveal a record turnover.

o how much did Celtic actually shell out in the transfer window, taking all into account? All figures listed below do not include reported add-ons or sell-on clauses but have been sourced from consensus reporting around the players involved.

There are a couple of minor undisclosed fees we have not used in totals, as well as youth loans, free transfers and the as-yet unconfirmed status of Albian Ajeti.

Net spend

Celtic net spend summer 2023: -£11.55 million

So it’s not so much a net spend and more of a net income. Celtic have taken in more transfer fees than they’ve spent across the summer months, which might surprise some casual observers.

Given the fact the club will be banking more UEFA Champions League group stage cash, should they have pushed the boat out more in the window?

This past weekend, Brendan Rodgers opined that the Scottish champions are merely adhering to a proven formula for success. However, other supporters may counter that this philosophy is based on making sure the squad is capable of battling on all fronts given the club’s obvious weaknesses.

It is evident that the Bhoys have a sizable cash reserve in case additional reinforcement during the winter transfer is necessary. Although that’s not ideal—ideally, we should have completed all of our season-related work by the end of the summer—the truth remains that the club has plenty of available funds.

In other news, the B squad picked up a significant victory on Saturday thanks to superb Rocco Vata form.
