Leeds United ended the summer transfer window with nine new signings.
It’s been a frantic summer on and off the pitch at Elland Road, with a change of ownership leading to the arrival of new behind-the-scenes staff, the appointment of a new manager and a large rotation of players.
Including Weston McKennie, Leeds lost 13 first-team members from last season, most of them on season-long loan.
However, after a slow start in the early stages, the San Francisco 49ers Enterprises did a great job in reshaping the team, which now looks as good as anyone in the division.
So, with that in mind, here’s a look at the best possible Leeds squad as the window closes.
Goalie
Illan Meslier was supposed to leave Leeds this summer but failed to attract much interest.
Despite Karl Darlow signing from Newcastle United, Meslier remains Daniel Farke’s number one.
Defense
After the turmoil in Leeds’ defense last season, it’s a position that needs to be reinforced and it looks like they certainly have.
Djed Spence and Joe Rodon joined the team directly after being loaned out for the whole season by Spurs, with Pascal Struijk also starting at centre-back.
This is a matchup between Sam Byram and Junior Firpo at left-back, but based on his form so far, the player has gotten the deal here.
Midfielder
For what seems like an eternity, Leeds are finally gaining depth in midfield, which could cause some selection headaches as the season progresses.
Ethan Ampadu is the real spearhead after moving from Chelsea for £7m, but who to choose him with is another question.
Archie Gray looked excellent in his first season as a first-team player but will now face competition from Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev following their £5m arrival this week.
Based on what we know about each player, Kamara almost has the edge here.
Attack
Losing Luis Sinisterra too late was a heavy blow for Leeds, but even after leaving, Farke still has one of the best, if not the best attacking options in the league.
After Sinisterra leaves, Wilfried Gnonto can now take this position on the left, with Crysencio Summerville on the other flank.
The £10.
5m signing of Joel Piroe joins Georginio Rutter in the middle, with Jaidon Anthony, Dan James and Patrick Bamford providing outstanding protection.
Leeds XI (4-2-3-1):
Messier; Spence, Rodon, Struijk, Byram; Ampadu, Kamara; Summerville, Piroe, Gnonto; Fence
