According to The Mirror journalist Darren Witcoop, Leeds United wanted to sign Ilias Chair from Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers on FridayLeeds’ summer window ended in seriously ambitious circumstances as the club looked to bring in a host of new signings in the final fortnight.
Starting with a huge addition in Joel Piroe, a handful more came through the doors, including Werder Bremen’s Bulgarian international Ilia Gruev
Here, we look at how much the club paid to bring in the 23-year-old midfielder, and what he earns in wages…
How much did Leeds pay for him?
A fee was agreed on Thursday to see Leeds bring in the midfielder, with slightly differing reports between Phil Hay and Florian Plettenberg on the exact fee.
Hay revealed it will cost Leeds £5million, while Plettenberg shared that a deal was agreed at €6million, which comes in slightly more expensive at £5.15million.
According to Capology, the international took home a weekly wage at his former club of €13,846-per-week, or a salary of €720,000.
In pounds, that translates to £11,873-per-week, or £617,414 over the course of a year
Witcoop claimed on Twitter that Leeds were ready to pay £6 million in transfer fees to bring the 25-year-old attacking midfielder to Elland Road.
Leicester City were also keen on Chair, but QPR decided not to sell the Morocco international, who can also play as a winger.
It was always unlikely that Leeds would be able to sign Chair so late in the summer transfer window.
Rangers simply did not have enough time to find a replacement
