Sporting director Matt Hobbs has spoken about new signing Tommy Doyle, who was confirmed by the club this morning.
Doyle has officially signed a loan deal with the club from Manchester City.
Doyle is the club’s sixth signing of the transfer window, following Tom King, Matt Doherty, Enso Gonzalez, and Santiago Bueno.
Wolves have made an exciting move.
Doyle was regarded as one of City’s most promising prospects.
And Hobbs’ remarks about the kid are sure to thrill Wolves fans…
Matt Hobbs says Tommy Doyle can bring a quality to Wolves than Ruben Neves did
Wolves’ sporting director Hobbs has been speaking about the club’s latest recruit to the official website.
He is delighted to land Doyle, and watched him play a lot last year at Sheffield United in his previous role in recruitment.
He claims Manchester City’s interest in Nunes rekindled Wolves’ interest in Doyle at the start of preseason.
And Hobbs believes Doyle can restore the ball-playing skill that was lost with the sale of Ruben Neves.
“For me, he’s a technician, a ball player, similar to what Ruben Neves was to the team,” he remarked (Wolves official). He has a lot of quality, a terrific set piece delivery, and is a free-kick taker, and his ability on the ball will provide Gary an option to have a bit more control of games.
“With the youth football career he’s had, for club and country, he went to the Championship and forced his way into the team, and showed he was beyond that. The next challenge is to prove he can do it every week in the Premier League and we’re here to help him, Gary is here to develop him as a Premier League midfielder like he was, so I think we’re a perfect place for Tommy to show what he’s capable of.”
Go well, Tommy
So Doyle has now officially signed for Wolves.
It’s great business by Wolves to get him in, and clearly the club have had him on their radar for weeks.
Hobbs’ remark about him being a ball-player like Neves is encouraging.
He is obviously not a replacement for the Portuguese.
However, having someone who is both confident and technical will be beneficial.
Wolves fans will now have to wait to see who follows Doyle out the door on deadline day.
Wolves and Southampton are in talks about signing Che Adams on loan.
