Deadline day Leeds United exit sanctioned as permanent deal rejected in favour of loan – Phil Hay
Leeds United right-back Cody Drameh is heading to Birmingham on a season-long loan, effectively ending his time at the club with only a year left on his deal.
Deadline day is upon us and Elland Road is expected to be a huge of activity both in and out of the club before the deadline strikes.
The first confirmed deal of the day looks set to be a confirmed exit from the club, though, and an unsurprising one.
close to Birmingham from Cody Drameh
According to The Athletic’s Phil Hay, Cody Drameh has a deal to go to Birmingham, and his departure from the team is likely.
The youthful right-back, whose chances of playing time have vanished since Djed Spence joined Leeds, is now considering a season-long loan.
Drameh’s contract with Leeds expires next summer; Birmingham has the option to extend the loan until the end of the current campaign.
Why isn’t Drameh being sold in Leeds?
Fans would be right to wonder why Leeds isn’t trying to get a good price for a player who is clearly going to leave and only has a year remaining on his contract.
Although a permanent agreement with Hull City was reached, the Tigers were unable to reach a personal understanding with the defender, and as a result, a transfer to St Andrew’s has taken place.
Given that no one at Leeds has ever been willing to give Drameh an opportunity at his best position, leaving has always been the best course of action for him.
However, since he is going to Birmingham on loan as Ethan Laird’s backup, which again means he will remain on the bench, doing so makes little sense for him.
However, it’s a new beginning for him and an opportunity to prove why, when he gets going, he’s one of the league’s top right-backs.
