Yunus Akgun transfers in from Galatasaray on a season-long loan as Leicester City finally get a new right-sided winger with just a few days left to go in the window
Leicester City have sealed their seventh signing of the summer with winger Yunus Akgun joining on a season-long loan from Galatasaray.
A new right-sided wide-man has been a priority for City since the start of the transfer window and with less than a week to go, they have a new recruit for the position, with the Turkish international signing up until at least the end of the campaign.
Akgun, who has five caps for his country, played for Galatarasay in a Champions League qualifier just a few days ago, but with the Turkish giants signing the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Wilfried Zaha, and former City winger Tete this summer, they have sanctioned his exit.
The 23-year-old registered one goal and four assists last season but was terrific the year before during a loan spell at Adana Demirspor, registering 26 goal involvements in 38 games for the club.
He will now join City and will battle with the likes of Wanya Marcal, Kasey McAteer, and Marc Albrighton for a spot in the team, albeit he is expected to be coming in as first choice.
Manager Enzo Maresca practically confirmed the deal after City’s 2-1 win at Rotherham on Saturday, saying: “The only thing I can say is that he is a good player and the reason why we decide for him is because we like him. Hopefully soon he can help us to win games and play in the right way.”
Akgun will wear the number 29 shirt and is City’s seventh signing of the summer after Conor Coady, Harry Winks, Callum Doyle, Mads Hermansen, Stephy Mavididi, and Cesare Casadei.
