Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has managed to convince Daniel Levy to reject an offer for Tanguy Ndombele, with the France midfielder ready to be handed a shock lifeline in north London.

The Aussie has been charged with reviving Spurs’ fortunes after the club saw their fortunes plummet in 2022/23. Indeed, following the removal of Antonio Conte as coach in March, a dire run of form saw the club slip from fourth down to eighth.

That leaves them without any form of European football for the first time since 2008/09. However, it effectively leaves Postecoglou with something of a blank canvas for which to work on in an effort to get the club back o

Reknown for a high-tempo style, Postecoglou had a massive impact at Celtic as the club won five trophies during his two years in charge.

Now as he looks to impose his style at Tottenham, the club has so far brought in two players so far in James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario.

However, in order to bring his plan to fruition, the 57-year-old wants a high-energy midfield unit.

To that end, the club are reportedly willing to let one of last season’s best players in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg move on this summer. Indeed, the Dane is the subject of a big-money interest from Atletico Madrid, per reports in Spain.

On the flipside, one man who could come in from the cold is Ndombele.

The one-time club-record £55m signing from Lyon has endured a difficult time since moving to north London. After failing to impress a string of managers, his time at the club appeared over following a loan to Napoli.

Ndombele to get Tottenham lifeline

The 26-year-old featured in 40 games for the Italian side last season. And it was certainly a triumphant one as the player lifted the Serie A title and reached the UCL quarter-finals.

And while his deal contained an option to make the move permanent, the Italian side allowed that to lapse.

Nonetheless, they are keen to make the move permanent. To that end, Ndombele has been the subject of a renewed €20m (£17m) offer from Napoli.

And while chairman Levy was ready to cut his losses on the seven-times capped France midfielder, it seems a major U-turn is now on the cards.

Indeed, according to L’Equipe, Ndombele will be given a fresh chance to make an impact at Spurs this summer. Postecoglou is keen to at the very least put the midfielder through his paces during pre-season.

And if he does enough to impress, he’ll likely be afforded a fresh lifeline to prove his worth.

It’s claimed that Postecoglou is a ‘long-time admirer’ of Ndombele and believes he can get a tune from the midfielder. To that end, he will be handed a fresh start and a clean slate to try and prove his worth.

The news will divide Tottenham fans, who have rarely seen Ndombele at his best. Both Conte and Jose Mourinho failed to get a tune out of the star. And supporters will be wary of whether Ndombele has it in him to become a success in the Premier League.
