One of our priorities in the transfer window this summer should be solving the left-back area, and Daniel Farke could find the perfect Leeds United signing is a player he sold in January 2018 – Nottingham Forest flyer Harry Toffolo.
Junior Firpo is one of the names within the Leeds squad that is widely expected to depart this summer. The former Barcelona man has failed to cut it in a Leeds shirt, unable to live up to the hype that surrounded his arrival in 2021.
With Firpo gone, Leeds are left with a handful of left-sided centre-backs, but not a proper recognised left-back. Leo Hjelde impressed in that role at Rotherham on loan last term – but he is unproven, and Leeds will need a new option.
Leeds will also need a goalkeeper, central midfielders, wingers and a no.10 this summer. But it is at left-back where Leeds have struggled over the years – failing to find a long-term replacement really since the exit of Charlie Taylor
came in and was good, before injuries. Gjanni Alioski was more of a winger, and his form went up and down. Firpo, as aforementioned. Pascal Struijk, more of a central defender. So, Leeds need to sign a new left-back
The perfect signing, and one that could be tempted by a move to Elland Road, is Toffolo. Back in January 2018, six months after arriving at Norwich, Farke allowed Toffolo to join Millwall permanently – after two Norwich matches.
Impressive form at Lincoln and then starring for Huddersfield, under Carlos Corberan, saw top-tier Forest make a move last summer. But Renan Lodi started over him, limiting Toffolo, 27, to just 21 games. So, he could be available.
His form in the Championship is excellent – 24 goal involvements in 99 second-tier games, scoring nine and laying on 15 assists. Farke should reunite with a player he sold in Toffolo, solving our left-back issues in the coming weeks.
