DEAL REJECTED: Sunderland AFC Goalkeeper Anthony Patterson has officially REJECTED signing a deal with A…. See more - Uncategorize Sunderland AFC goalkeeper Anthony Patterson has reportedly rejected a contract proposal, sparking fresh speculation about his future.

Patterson has been at the centre of transfer discussions surrounding Sunderland this summer. The 26-year-old goalkeeper played an important role in Sunderland’s promotion campaign but later found his opportunities limited following the emergence of Robin Roefs.

Reports earlier in the summer indicated that Sunderland were prepared to listen to offers for Patterson, with several clubs showing interest in the goalkeeper.

The latest claim that Patterson has rejected a new deal would add another twist to the situation. However, there is currently no reliable report confirming that he has officially rejected a specific new contract offer, so the claim should be treated as unconfirmed.

Patterson’s situation has already changed significantly. He spent the second half of the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Millwall before returning to Sunderland for pre-season. Reports also indicated that Wrexham were interested in signing him.

That interest eventually became a completed transfer: Wrexham signed Patterson from Sunderland in August 2026 for a reported club-record fee. Reuters confirmed the move, while reports put the fee at around £8 million.

Patterson had been closely associated with Sunderland throughout his career, making 169 competitive appearances for the club before the move. His departure therefore represents a significant change for the Black Cats and brings the curtain down on a long spell with the club.
