Club now interested in tempting ‘exceptional’ 27-year-old away from Wolves.
Bundesliga side Wolfsburg are reportedly showing interest in Wolves forward Hwang Hee-chan.
The South Korean scored Wolves’ first goal of the new season on Saturday in the 4-1 defeat to Brighton.
Hwang started on the bench, and came on at 4-0 down.
He also started on the bench against Manchester United last week.
Hwang has probably looked one of Wolves’ sharpest players in recent weeks.
The 27-year-old struggling with injuries a little towards the end of last season, but has generally looked quite good for Wolves since coming back from the World Cup.
But he’s now being linked with an exit in the window…
Wolfsburg eyeing Bundesliga return for Wolves star Hwang Hee-chan
According to the Daily Mail, Bundesliga side Wolfsburg are now showing interest in Hwang.
Hwang, of course, has previous experience of playing in the Bundesliga, having represented RB Leipzig.
He joined Wolves on loan from them in the summer of 2021, and news dropped just months later that the club were turning the move permanent.
There is no word on what the stance of Wolves is, or the stance of the player.
But given the late stage of the window we are in, it’s likely Wolves will be very opposed to losing Hwang.
Especially since he has looked the most likely player to score a goal.
Hwang has previously been a target for German club Borussia Monchengladbach.
Wolves must not sell Hwang, amid Wolfsburg interest
Wolves simply mustn’t sell Hwang.
It is too late in the window, and it’s questionable whether you’d be able to get a replacement who is as good as he is, with the budget Wolves are operating with.
Hwang doesn’t just have a goal in him – he is a brilliant team player. He has previously been hailed as an ‘exceptional’ player by former Liefering and Salzburg head coach Peter Zeidler.
His work rate is always brilliant to see, and really important for the team. You get the feeling that Gary O’Neil will like him, just as Julen Lopetegui did.
