Sheffield United are keeping their hopes up when it comes to re-signing last season’s loan star, James McAtee, from Manchester City.
McAtee emerged as one of the stars of the show in the second half of the season as he scored a number of crucial goals to help United up into the Premier League.
Since then, United fans have been desperate to see both he and Tommy Doyle return to the club.
However, McAtee has featured for City in pre-season and even came on at Burnley last weekend.
But according to The Sun, United still want to sign McAtee. It could well mean Paul Heckingbottom is planning on using one of his Premier League loans to secure McAtee for another season.
As we know, United are short in the final third and have been playing Will Osula and Benie Traore to try and nab the goals so far. However, it’s clear more players are needed in attacking areas and McAtee ticks a number of boxes.
Sheffield United News View: McAtee return would be brilliant
Give City are considering giving him a new contract and value him at around the £25m mark, it would be a real coup to get James McAtee back.
Given United have set up in recent games mixing between a two up top and a three, it would be ideal to get McAtee in to play off the left of the striker. He knows the club, knows the position and crucially, is good enough to delvier.
There is a clamour for Tommy Doyle to return as well. But given we have just signed three central midfielders, McAtee’s arrival could be more crucial right now.
Certainly, if this one gets done, there’ll be a lot of happy United fans.
