The 24-year-old has been an instant hit at Fratton Park, following his summer move from Western Sydney but will now be likely to miss the next few matches.

The Australian has spent his entire career in his native country until his move in the summer. He has since made three appearances for John Mousinho’s side, scoring four goals. This included a brace during the club’s EFL Cup win against Forest Green Rovers.

A strong start

Following a busy summer window so far, Portsmouth remain unbeaten in all competitions so far. They kicked off the campaign with a 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers, before winning three on the bounce against Forest Green Rovers (cup), Leyton Orient and Exeter City (both league).

On Saturday, Portsmouth were held to a goalless draw against Cheltenham Town, in a match that will be remembered for a fan having to help officiate, due to several injuries to the pre-existing officials.

What’s been said?

Following the final whistle at Fratton Park, the reasoning behind Yengi’s absence was revealed in a post on Twitter, which stated…

‘John Mousinho has confirmed that Kusini Yengi will be out for six to eight weeks with an ankle injury.’

Yengi has had an outstanding start to life at Fratton Park and his injury will be a major now for the League One side, ahead of their upcoming matches.

Portsmouth will take on Fulham U21s on Tuesday in the opening round of this season’s EFL Trophy, before travelling to newly promoted Stevenage on Saturday afternoon, with the side currently sat in sixth place, taking eight points from their opening four matches.Kusini Yengi - Wikipedia
