UPDATE :Man City target agree deal to sign new contract with Brighton

Manchester City look set to miss out on player with the winger set to sign a new deal with Brighton.

The Japan international has seriously impressed during his time at the south coast club.

Mitoma has blown fans away for the Seagulls since joining them from J-League side Kawasaki Frontale for just £2.7 million.

The star has been attracting attention from other clubs as a result of his great form.

And earlier this month, it was reported that Mitoma was of interest to Manchester City.

He is a player Pep Guardiola said has been ‘incredible’. Pep made the remark during City’s pre-season tour of Asia.

But it looks as though the Spaniard may have to focus on other wing targets given new reports about Mitoma today.

Mitoma is now on the verge of signing a new deal with Brighton, according to TEAMtalk.

Apparently, talks have gone well between club and player, and it is now being finalised.

Brighton have been keen to reward him for his excellent debut season, with both a pay rise and on extended terms.

The news will delight Brighton fans.

They have already lost Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister this season.

Keeping Mitoma would be a huge boost for them, as they participate in the Europa Conference League this season.

One wonders how Pep feels about this news about Mitoma.

It’s possible he’s disappointed, knowing he’s an admirer of the 26-year-old. He may have fancied a swoop.

Especially since another target Michael Olise has now signed a new contract at Crystal Palace.
