Wolves have lost their opening game against Manchester United 1-0 in the Premier League.

After the most turbulent week, Wanderers have suffered a narrow loss at Old Trafford – but the performance was one to take real positives from.

It was such an encouraging performance this evening.

Many people expected Wolves to just sit back and try to keep United out.

But Wolves were actually superb and created many good chances in the game. And every player worked their socks off.

There were no signs of despondence following the departure of Julen Lopetegui, and new manager Gary O’Neil can be extremely proud of his players tonight.

But it was pretty much the same old story – Wolves were just not clinical enough in the final third

And there is one player in particular who absolutely starred for Wolves at Old Trafford.

Matheus Cunha praised by Don Goodman during Manchester United vs Wolves

Wolves were extremely unlucky to lose this evening.

Wanderers put in a really gutsy performance against the Red Devils and played some great stuff at times.

It was very refreshing to see so many players carrying the ball and really taking the game to United.

And arguably Wolves’ best player on the night was Matheus Cunha.

Cunha was a serious thorn in United’s side.

Time and time again he received the ball and just drove with it – almost like Adama Traore used to do so often.

He had about four chances to score this evening.

The Brazilian just couldn’t find the back of the net, and squandered a particularly good chance midway through the second-half when he the post.

He drew praise from Sky commentator and former Wolves striker Don Goodman, who at one point said of the South American: “Outstanding play from Matheus Cunha again. He is causing Manchester United all kind of problems here.”

Cunha performance just lacked a goal – he needs a partner

This was perhaps one of Cunha’s best displays in a Wolves shirt to date.

His ball-carrying tonight was utterly outstanding.

Wolves fans know that he is not clinical though, and surely O’Neil has to consider starting him with Fabio Silva in the next game.

Silva came on tonight and looked pretty comfortable, having a couple of chances himself.

Together, they could be the answer for Wolves.
