West Brom miss out on Sory Kaba after Birmingham agree a fee…
West Brom are set to miss out on one of their key striker targets this summer after midlands rivals Birmingham agreed a fee to sign the forward, according to Mike McGrath.
The Daily Telegraph journalist shared via his personal Twitter account on 14 August that Kaba is set to join Birmingham from Midtjylland, despite interest from numerous Championship clubs.
The Baggies were linked to Kaba, who scored eight goals in 17 games on loan at Cardiff last season, by the Mirror [1 August], although it was then shared Watford were winning the race before Birmingham swooped.
West Brom are still in need of a striker, especially following the injury to Brandon Thomas-Asante, which saw Carlos Corberan opt to start Matt Phillips up front in the win over Swansea due to the lack of fit strikers at the club.
Josh Maja joined on a free transfer after his contract at Bordeaux expired, but Corberan shared after the Swansea clash that the striker still isn’t ready to play more than 20 minutes per game, as he continues to build up his fitness, having missed out on a full pre-season.
Missing out on Kaba, especially to a direct rival, will be a bitter blow to West Brom, who will now need to assess their options and the potential availability of new targets who may fall into their bracket in terms of the money they can spend.
West Brom’s financial struggles have been well-documented this summer, as they may still need to sell players in order to balance the books, meaning any incoming deals will likely be loans or free transfers, as we have seen with Jeremy Sarmiento from Brighton and Maja.
