Wanderers news: as Wolves squad numbers are announced ahead of their Premier League season opener at Manchester United…….

Wolves have confirmed their 2023/24 first-team squad numbers ahead of Monday night’s Premier League season opener against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Matt Doherty will once again wear the number two shirt after rejoining the club this summer. Meanwhile, Joao Gomes, Hugo Bueno and Joe Hodge have been allocated new numbers.

Gomes takes over the number eight shirt previously worn by Ruben Neves, while Bueno has swapped 64 for 17 and Hodge is the new number 32. Elsewhere, Tom King has been handed the number 40 shirt and Fabio Silva takes over number 29 from the departed Diego Costa.

Notably, there is no number nine following the departure of Raul Jimenez to Fulham, and number four is also free, having been vacated by Nathan Collins, who joined Brentford this summer. This has not gone unnoticed by Wolves fans, some of who would like to have seen Silva wear number nine, while others are predicting a new striker signing before the summer transfer window closes.
