Hull City boss makes referee point as Tigers come from behind to outclass Sheffield Wednesday………

Hull City notched their first victory of the season in some style by seeing off their Yorkshire rivals in style

Liam Rosenior says Hull City’s 4-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday was the least his side deserved after outclassing the Owls to pick up their first win of the season.

Ozan Tufan’s hat trick, the first of his career, and a late Aaron Connolly goal saw City come from a goal down to record a deserved victory, having dominated from start to finish, notching an impressive 73 per cent possession against their Yorkshire rivals.

City roared into a 4-1 lead after Tufan netted a penalty to level just before the break, and then the Turkish ace rattled in a terrific second before sweeping in his third, only to see Michael Smith score with just Wednesday’s second effort on target in stoppage time, which left Rosenior frustrated.

The Tigers boss was also annoyed by referee Michael Donohue’s decision to allow the opening goal following a confusing free-kick situation.

It’s a fantastic reaction from the players. We’ve had a difficult start. We’re 15 seconds away from getting a point in the first game but for a refereeing decision,” Rosenior told Hull Live.

“We go 1-0 down today and it clearly shouldn’t have stood. He’s blown the whistle and he’s blown it again, everyone in the stadium can hear it, I don’t understand what happened there.

What I have to say is how the players responded. They didn’t respond by panicking, they responded by playing the style of football I want to bring to the club.

“We build from the back for a reason, we hurt them. They were struggling in the first half, to go in at 1-1 was the least we deserved, we absolutely dominated. It was complete domination from start to finish, then I wanted to see us kick on. Ozan Tufan definitely did that, but so did every single player in the group.

“I was really pleased, but I was really devastated that we conceded a needless goal. I don’t want us to win 4-2, that game wasn’t a 4-2 game, that should have been more.

“If we want to be successful then we have to be ruthless and clinical, and being ruthless and clinical is scoring goals but it’s also making sure our defensive record is as good as it was last season.

“That’s something for us to work on. We weren’t the worst team in the world on Tuesday and we’re not the best team in the world now. We have to stay consistent, keep working and improving but there were some really positive signs today.”
