Premier League newcomers Burnley have made a bid for Hertha Berlin forward Dodi Lukebakio while their deal for ESTAC Troyes starlet Wilson Odobert could eventually rise to £17 million with bonuses included.
Vincent Kompany’s side will take on none other than Manchester City in Friday’s curtain raiser. And if you were expecting to see a similar side from the one who suffered relegation on the final day of 2021/22, think again.
After overhauling their playing staff last summer, Burnley have completed a further ten signings since winning the Championship title a few months ago; Sander Berge arriving from Sheffield United on Wednesdays to take their tally into double figures.
Signing number 11 should not be too far away either.
Wilson Odobert, the former PSG starlet who scored four goals and set up two more even as Troyes were relegated from Ligue 1 last term, is jetting in for a medical today. He will sign a five-year deal at Turf Moor (Le Parisien).
French publication L’Est Eclair, meanwhile, believe Burnley could end up paying £17 million for a player who won’t even celebrate his 19th birthday until November.
Burnley close in on two more signings
Dodi Lukebakio is unlikely to be quite so costly.
The jet-heeled Belgium international wants to leave, is training away from the rest of the Hertha Berlin squad, and is almost certain to get his wish after one of Germany’s most historic sides finally lost their grip on their Bundesliga status.
BILD reports that Burnley are offering £9.5 million up front. The deal could rise to £11 million with add-ons.
Capped eight times by the Rote Duivels, Lukebakio was a bright spark in a dark season at Hertha. He scored 12 goals in all competitions, and would add serious quality – not to mention searing pace – to a Burnley frontline already strengthened by the additions of Nathan Redmond, Jacob Bruun Larsen, Zeki Amdouni and Luca Koleosho, not to mention Odobert.
