Leeds United have agreed a deal with Tottenham to loan Wales defender Joe Rodon for the 2023/2024 season after he returned on loan from Rennes France this summer.

Rodon’s signing will be a massive statement for the Championship side who already have Daniel James and Ethan Ampadu in their ranks. Rodon would come in at an opportune time too, with Leeds skipper Liam Cooper ruled out for up to eight weeks with a foot injury following their 2-2 draw with Cardiff City over the weekend.

The former Swansea defender has struggled for game time since signing for a reported £11million under Jose Mourinho and will see this as an opportunity to get his career going again in English football.

Tottenham have just confirmed the signing of Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg for an initial £34million fee, and with the likes of Romero, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez still at the club, there is a feeling that going away on loan is the best for the 25-year-old defender who was once tipped to be one of the best in the world by Gareth Bale.

New manager Ange Postecoglou has been keen on getting new faces in as he looks to start his Tottenham journey against Brentford this week, but the move which has seen Rodon travel to Yorkshire for his medical could be the one that creates space for the new boss.

Leeds themselves are looking to get back straight in the Premier League after going down last season and with Daniel Farke’s side getting a player who can improves the weakest side of his team, the player gets minutes that he would not have gotten at north London and Tottenham keeping him in the transfer window for potential buyers.

Leeds United are still interested in signing Burnley left-back Charlie Taylor but will need the Clarets to sign a replacement to complete a deal, according to the Daily Express.

The newspaper reported on their website (9 August) that Daniel Farke still wants to add to his backline this summer with Max Aarons and Joe Rodon likely additions, but Taylor also remains on the radar of the Elland Road club.

The 29-year-old, who is a product of the Leeds academy and featured 104 times in his first spell with the Whites, played 41 times in all competitions last year, predominantly as a centre-back as the Clarets won the Championship.

Explaining the position of a potential deal as Leeds aim to have a busy end to the transfer window, Ryan Taylor wrote: “Another player that remains of firm admiration is Burnley’s Charlie Taylor but the Clarets will only consider sanctioning his departure if a new left-back arrives in the final weeks of the window.

Leeds United are quickly looking more and more like a competitive title-challenging outfit with each passing name linked to Elland Road and while both Rodon and Aarons are young players with Championship experience, Taylor knows the division inside out.
