Nottingham Forest are very close to the signing of Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner. The stopper has been in the sights of the Reds for a few weeks and a deal is nearing completion.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal is now very close to being finalised. Forest need a goalkeeper before next weekend when they travel to Arsenal in the Premier League

Ethan Horvath is the only senior custodian in the ranks, with George Shelvey providing the backup during pre-season. Yesterday, the USA star wasn’t even in the matchday squad, with Steve Cooper seemingly not willing to utilise the player in the Premier League.

Turner has made seven appearances for Arsenal but regular first-team football is likely to be something he would consider. Although Forest still hope to sigDean Henderson, it’s not certain that he will be fit to start the season.

As a result, Forest are targeting two goalkeepers this summer. Jose Sa is another stopper who has been linked, but it’s very unlikely that Wolves will sell the goalkeeper without first signing a replacement.

Mikel Arteta has raved about Turner during his time at Arsenal. He’s called him ‘phenomenal’ before, with the stopper playing particularly well during a game against Bodo/Glimt last season.

This would be an interesting signing, to say the least. Forest do need a goalkeeper and Arsenal are now willing to let Turner leave this summer.Matt Turner paws New England Revolution into Eastern Conference Final

They’re set to sign David Raya from Brentford. He will compete with Aaron Ramsdale for the number one spot and Turner will be deemed surplus.

Turner could prove a useful addition to the Forest ranks. He will come in and play regularly in the short term, with Henderson likely to sign later in the window.

This update from Romano is definitely positive. It sounds as though everything is in place for the deal to go through and Turner could make his debut against the team he’s about to leave.
