NEWS UPDAT: Tottenham holding meeting next week over incoming transfer – Intent to ‘unblock’ negotiations.
Tottenham are planning on holding a meeting with Barcelona next week to discuss the signing of Clement Lenglet on a permanent basis.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the two clubs will take advantage of their presence in the Joan Gamper Trophy to hold further talks on the Frenchman.
The newspaper explains that Barcelona are ‘trying to unravel’ the departure of Lenglet, who they’re determined to get off their books as soon as possible.
They had a deal lined up with Al-Nassr but despite the Saudi Arabian club offering him a good deal, he turned it down as he wants to remain in Europe.
Tottenham’s interest in him ‘persists’ following his loan spell at the club last season and Barcelona are now hoping to ‘unblock’ the situation when Spurs travel to take part in the Joan Gamper Trophy on August 8 in Montjuïc.
The leaders of both clubs have planned a meeting to ‘exchange impressions’ and find a solution to the transfer, which has been gestating for weeks. Lenglet is more than open to a return to England with Tottenham.
He has other options, particularly in Italy where both AC Milan and Napoli are considering a move. The latter are new to the race as they look for a replacement for Kim Min-jae.
The priority for Barcelona is getting rid of Lenglet’s high wages, more so than getting a good transfer fee, meaning there is a deal there to be done for Tottenham, something they’re going to explore again on August 8th.
