DONE DEAL: Coventry City has secured USA international top striker in a record-breaking club transfer

The 25-year-old forward has committed to the Sky Blues with a four-year contract, arriving from Antalyaspor after the club paid a record 9 million euros transfer fee.

Haji Wright, who began his professional football journey at New York Cosmos, had subsequent successful stints at Schalke 04 in Germany, Dutch club VVV-Venlo, and Danish Superliga club SønderjyskE.

His goal-scoring was on display at SønderjyskE and Antalyaspor, where he netted 13 and 31 goals respectively.

In addition to his club career, Wright has also left his mark on the international stage.

Representing the USA seven times at the senior level, Wright scored two goals and notably played in all four matches at the 2022 World Cup, including starting against England.

Coventry City manager Mark Robins was enthusiastic about the club’s newest addition, saying, “We are delighted to welcome Haji to Coventry City. He is a quick, powerful striker, and a very good finisher, who will add another exciting attacking dynamic to our play and clear quality to our squad.”

Owner and Executive Chairman Doug King echoed Robins’ sentiments, stating, “We have been following Haji’s career for many months and believe he will be a hugely exciting addition to our club.”

Upon his arrival, Wright expressed his excitement about the move. He highlighted the allure of playing in England and the ambitious project at Coventry City as key factors in his decision.

“Hopefully a lot of goals and a lot of assists and someone who works hard and does his best for the team.”

He added, “I’m excited to meet the boys, I’ve heard a lot of great things about them and I’m excited to meet them. I’m 100% ready go if called upon this weekend.”
