Chelsea have just announced on the club’ the news that we heard yesterday from various sources around the footballing world – Levi Colwill has signed a new long term contract at the club.
A six year deal, with an option for a seventh, finally secures one of the world’s top talents in his age group in his position to the club where he has grown up. It has been quite the battle to get to this stage, and at times it’s felt Colwill was more keen to leave than stay, but in the end an agreement has been found, and Blues fans can finally breathe easy.
Colwill has been at Chelsea since he was 8 years old, but it has been his last two seasons, on loan at Huddersfield and then Brighton, where he has shot to prominence. The Seagulls were desperate to keep him after his successes last season, but in the end he has been persuaded to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Clearly major promises will have been made about playing time this season. Let’s see how that shakes out.
