A deal is now advanced between Liverpool and West Ham United for the sale of academy product Amara Nallo, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Transfer guru posted on 31 Julyhtat the Reds were in talks with the Hammers to sign the centre-back, born in 2006, however, in a new development regarding Jurgen Klopp’s men, they are also close to completing a move for Leicester’s 16-year-old Trey Nyoni and in advanced talks for Nallo.
Nallo was one of 12 academy talents to sign scholarship deals at West Ham in May this year, having made appearances for the club’s Under-18 side and it is believed that the Hammers could be due training compensation should Nallo complete his move [TEAMtalk, 31 July].
Romano tweeted: “Liverpool are close to complete deal to sign Leicester City 16-year-old English midfielder Trey Nyoni, one more talent for the Academy.
“This follows deal advanced for 2006 born centre back Amara Nallo from West Ham as revealed yesterday.
Liverpool are certainly on the prowl to boost their academy profile and quota for the future and the raid of West Ham United and Leicester City certainly point to the kind of pull the Reds hold over their English counterparts right now.
Clearly, Nallo would not be a signing for the first team at Anfield just yet but would join the Reds’ academy, with his 17th birthday coming in November this year
Former West Ham and England striker Carlton Cole is a coach with the Hammers’ Under-16 side and has been full of praise for Nallo previously, and the 16-year-old is said to be one of the biggest teenage products at the club so this advanced deal is certainly a blow for the Irons.
Given the number of young academy starlets to already leave the Hammers over the past year, losing Amara is another damaging blow for such a burgeoning and famous academy setup.
After losing one of their greatest academy products in Declan Rice, the Hammers should be hell-bent on continuing that tradition to find the next Rice. But, that ambition may prove difficult if they keep allowing them to leave.
