Everton have made an enquiry about Swansea City’s Joel Piroe.
WalesOnline have reported that the striker has attracted plenty of interest across Europe, having been heavily linked with a move to Leicester City this week.
Piroe joined the Swans from PSV for only £1 million in 2021 and has since become one of their key players, netting an impressive 41 goals in 88 matches in the Championship.
While the 23-year-old is open to seeing out the remainder of his contract in Wales, it seems highly likely that Swansea will move him on this summer to avoid losing him for free next year.
Leicester City have already been linked with the forward following their relegation and are reportedly set to submit a bid for his signature in the coming days.
However, the Toffees have now joined the race for Piroe alongside Nottingham Forest and an unnamed Serie A club.
Swansea slapped a £20 million price tag on their star striker last summer, though he is expected to leave for much less this time round given his contract situation.
Joel Piroe could be what Everton need after missing out on Viktor Gyokeres
Everton will be disappointed that they missed out on Viktor Gyokeres, who looks set to join Sporting Lisbon this summer.
However, his goal stats are similar to Joel Piroe’s, with the Dutchman available for less cash than his Coventry City counterpart.
Piroe is well loved at the Swansea.com Stadium, having finished the campaign as the Championship’s fourth top scorer and also picking up the club’s Player of the Year award last season.
Former Swansea boss Russell Martin was a huge fan of Piroe, labelling him ‘outstanding’ and ‘a real threat’ shortly after he made the move from Eindhoven.
If Sean Dyche’s side can lure Piroe to Goodison Park for around half of what they would have paid for Gyokeres, then they could be heading for a huge deal.
The attacker could also see a move to the Premier League as a very tempting offer in comparison to Leicester City, though the Foxes are extremely likely to be able to offer him top flight football next season too.
