West Brom set for cash windfall as Fabrizio Romano shares Manchester City transfer news

West Brom are set to receive a sum of cash thanks to a sell-on clause included in the deal that saw Morgan Rogers leave The Hawthorns in 2019.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Thursday morning (6 July), Fabrizio Romano reported that the 20-year-old is on the verge of leaving Manchester City to join Middlesbrough on a permanent basis

it is understood that the Halesowen-born attacker, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Blackpool, will undergo a medical with Middlesbrough on Thursday while all the necessary paperwork will be signed.

Rogers was one of the most highly-rated players in West Brom’s academy when he left the Black Country club in 2019 to join Manchester City.

It was widely reported at the time that the deal was worth an initial £4million and could have risen to £8million due to various add-ons.

While those add-ons are unlikely to have been met due to the fact Rogers never played a senior game for Man City, the Daily Mail reported in July 2021 that there was a sell-on clause also tied into the deal.

That means that the Baggies will be entitled to a percentage of the fee Boro are paying to Man City for Rogers.

It remains to be seen what kind of percentage the Albion will receive while it’s also unclear, at this moment in time, how much Boro are paying for the forward.

West Brom need as much money as they can get this summer so it’s a slice of good fortune – albeit a minor one – for the club to see some money come in from this sell-on clause.

In other West Brom news, Albion submitted a bid for this World Cup goalscorer earlier in the year.
