Mauricio Pochettino has received a huge boost as Chelsea have reached an agreement with Monaco for the signing of Axel Disasi.

Following the injury to Wesley Fofana, Chelsea have been on the hunt for a new right-sided centre half.

Chelsea have already lost the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Cesar Azpilicueta and Ethan Ampadu during the summer transfer window.

Adding a new centre half was seen as a priority by Pochettino and it seems as if Chelsea have landed one of their top targets.

According to David Ornstein, Chelsea have reached ‘an agreement in principle’ to sign Disasi for a fee of around €45m.

With Fofana set to be out for the foreseeable future, Chelsea will be pleased to have an agreement in place for the 25-year-old.

The French international featured in 38 Ligue 1 matches for Monaco last season and chipped in with six goal contributions.

He can play at centre half or right back and will give Pochettino an added dynamic in Chelsea’s backline for the upcoming season.

Both Man Utd and Newcastle were interested in the Monaco defender, but it seems as if Chelsea have won the race to sign him.

With a deal for Disasi now almost over the line, Chelsea will be able to turn their attention to other areas of the pitch.

Signing a holding midfielder remains a top priority for Pochettino’s side this summer, although they have been unsuccessful so far in their attempts to sign Moises Caicedo.

Despite Caicedo being keen on the move himself, the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement over his valuation.

Chelsea have gone as high as £80m with their second bid, but Brighton are still believed to be holding out for a fee of around £100m.

Along with signing a holding midfielder, Chelsea are also in the market for a goalkeeper and extra attacking option.

Brighton’s Robert Sanchez is being considered for the goalkeeping department as Pochettino looks to give Kepa

arrizabalaga some much-needed competition.

Chelsea still have plenty of work to do to get their squad up to the required standard for the upcoming season, but they are heading in the right direction with the addition of Disasi.
