JUST IN: Raptors Breakthrough: First Road Win of the Season Against Pelicans…
The Toronto Raptors secured their first road win of the season with a thrilling 115-110 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. The win marks a significant achievement for the Raptors, who had been struggling to find consistency away from home, but a bold new approach on both ends of the floor made all the difference.
Head coach Darko Rajaković, in a bid to jumpstart his team’s fortunes on the road, implemented a revamped strategy that saw the Raptors lean heavily into their defensive prowess and transition play. Toronto’s defense, which has often been a point of concern this season, came up big in critical moments. The Raptors forced the Pelicans into 18 turnovers, leading to easy fast-break opportunities that kept the pace high and the home team on edge.
One key change was the team’s emphasis on switching defensive schemes, keeping the Pelicans’ dynamic duo of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram at bay. Although Williamson was able to score 24 points, he struggled to find rhythm against the Raptors’ defensive rotations, often finding himself surrounded by multiple defenders. Ingram added 22 points but was similarly stymied by Toronto’s length and defensive versatility.
On offense, the Raptors showed impressive ball movement, registering 28 assists on 42 made baskets. Fred VanVleet led the way with 27 points, including some crucial shots down the stretch. His leadership on both ends of the floor was pivotal as the Raptors weathered a late surge from the Pelicans in the final minutes.
Pascal Siakam, who had been relatively quiet in the early part of the season, also stepped up with a double-double performance, contributing 22 points and 11 rebounds. His ability to crash the boards and convert in the post was key to Toronto’s success, particularly during the second half, when the Raptors built a solid lead that the Pelicans couldn’t overcome.
The win is a much-needed confidence boost for the Raptors, who had dropped their first five games on the road this season. With the victory, they improve to 8-9 overall and head into the next stretch of games with renewed optimism. The road win also marks a major milestone for Rajaković, who has been working hard to implement his system and gain traction with his team.
Toronto will now look to build on this victory as they continue their road trip, hoping that their new defensive identity and offensive balance can carry them through the rest of the season.
