NEWS NOW: SAM PITTMAN, A major tight end has been signed by the Razorbacks in a blockbuster transaction from

Arkansas’ Class of 2025 grew to 23 verbal commitments on Tuesday when Chico (Calif.) Pleasant Valley tight end Gavin Garretson went public with his college decision. Garretson, 6-7, 240, de-committed from San Diego State just before announcing in favor of the Hogs, and just one day after wrapping up an official visit in Fayetteville (Ark.).

Garretson, who has an older brother already playing at SDSU, was recruited to Arkansas by tight ends coach Morgan Turner and assistant quarterbacks coach Miles Fishback, a fellow Chico native. The Razorbacks joined Garretson’s offer list in early October and got him on campus last Saturday for the start of his red-carpet treatment.

“My favorite part of the visit was definitely the people of Fayetteville,” Garretson told HawgSports in his post-visit interview. “I felt everywhere I went I was surrounded by good people. I’ve never seen a town, much less a state, that lives for a college.

According to 247Sports, Garretson is a three-star prospect who ranks 114th at his position — he was evaluated as a defensive end — and 125th overall in the state of California. Arkansas currently has 22 commitments and ranks 29th in the country for the Class of 2025.

Through the first six games this season, he recorded 192 receiving yards and two touchdowns on offense, and 30 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 7 sacks and 7 quarterback hurries from his defensive end position. The Razorbacks are recruiting Garretson to play offense though he certainly could get a look on defense if it doesn’t work out.

With a tight end spot now filled for this cycle, Arkansas is up to 23 total commitments for the Class of 2025, including nine on the offensive side in three-star quarterback Grayson Wilson of Conway (Ark.), three-star athlete Quentin Murphy of Little Rock (Ark.) Parkview, three-star running back Markeylin Batton of Atlanta (Texas), three-star wide receiver Antonio Jordan, three-star wide receiver Kamare Williams of West Palm Beach (Fla.) Central, three-star offensive lineman Connor Howes of St. Could (Fla.), three-star offensive lineman Lionel Prudhomme of Shreveport (La.) Captain Shreve, three-star offensive lineman Kash Courtney of Carthage (Texas), and three-star offensive lineman Blake Cherry of Owasso (Okla.).

The Razorbacks also have defensive commitments from four-star linebacker Tavion Wallace of Jesup (Ga.) Wayne County, three-star defensive lineman Kevin Oatis of Hattiesburg (Miss.), three-star linebacker Jayden Shelton of Dallas (Texas) South Oak Cliff, three-star defensive end Keiundre Johnson of Terrell (Texas), three-star defensive end Reginald Vaughn of Madison (Miss.)
