Five Chicago Bears trade partners in exchange for Khalil Herbert, a running back

Khalil Herbert has not taken an offensive snap for the Chicago Bears in the past two weeks. With Roschon Johnson emerging as the complementary running back to D’Andre Swift, Herbert has quickly found himself on the outside looking in with the Bea

With Herbert losing his role on the Bears’ offense, it seems that he will be a name mentioned in trade talks over the next few weeks. There are teams that would be interested.

5. San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have been known to trade for a running back. They also have been known to have an injured running back on their roster. Christian McCaffery has not played this year, and while there is a speculative timeline, no one knows for sure if and when he will return. Beyond that, Elijah Mitchell is out for the year.

So, the 49ers have leaned on Jordan Mason, and while it has worked, they are now an injury away from rookie Isaac Guerendo and journeyman Patrick Taylor being all that they have. Not only is Herbert better than those two but he is a great fit for this offense.

4. Houston Texans

The Houston Texans ran the ball successfully in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts. While the Colts’ defense has struggled against the run, the addition of Joe Mixon to the Texans’ backfield is what made the difference. Mixon, however, has been dealing with an injury of late that has forced him to miss action.

Texans’ offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik comes from the 49ers, and we already discussed the fit in this type of offense. Beyond that fit, the Texans also have Bill Lazor on staff, who was the offensive coordinator when Herbert was drafted.

Joe Mixon may not be out long-term, but we already saw him banged up after handling a big workload. The Texans have serious Super Bowl aspirations and look good in the AFC picture after beating the Buffalo Bills. They not only need insurance for Joe Mixon, but they also need someone to take some of his workload. Herbert would be a great fit.

3. Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders could be a good fit if Luke Getsy liked his time with Herbert. The two spent three years together, and the best years of Herbert’s career were under Getsy. Last year, the Bears went into the season with the intention of starting Herbert and him being their lead rusher. He could step into Las Vegas and be in the same spot.

Zamir White is injured, but White could instantly lose his job to Herbert if he is healthy. Alexander Mattison is currently carrying the load and most would agree that Herbert is a better player than him as well. At the very least, Herbert brings an element of speed that neither White nor Mattison have.

The Raiders are making a quarterback change, but sitting at 2-3, their season is far from over. They need to lean on the run, but it is one of the worst attacks in the NFL. Adding a big-play hitter like Herbert may help.

2.Kansas City Chiefs

You can already see this decision backfiring, right? When Herbert rips off a 75-yard touchdown in the Super Bowl fans will be complaining about how they only got a late-round pick for this player. However, the Bears cannot worry about the Chiefs and have to do what is best for business. If Kansas City offers the best deal, the team has to accept it.

For the Chiefs, they obviously need a running back. We do not know when Isaiah Pachecho will be back and they are so desperate that Kareem Hunt led the group in rushing after being signed off of the street just a few weeks ago.

Herbert is younger, faster, and has similar traits that Hunt once displayed when he was younger. The speed of Herbert on the field with someone like Xavier Worthy should entice the Chiefs as well. Will they strike a deal.

1. Dallas Cowboys trade for Khalil Herbert

The Dallas Cowboys have an interesting backfield. If you are looking at this group in 2018, it is one of the best with Ezekiel Elliott and Dalvin Cook. However, now they are both well beyond their best days. So, the team has relied on Rico Dowdle instead.

Dowdle has started to find his groove, and his best game was last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but you have to realize that there can be a higher ceiling to the Dallas rushing attack. The offense needs a hit of explosion and they do not have it right now. So, should they trade for Khalil Herbert? It would not be a surprising move.
