JUST IN: Ivan Cleary son Nathan’s operation will be postponed for one reason Cleary reviews

Penrith Panthers head coach Ivan Cleary has revealed his premiership winning son will be spending time with his girlfriend Mary Fowler in England before undergoing shoulder surgery.

Nathan Cleary managed to get through another successful premiership season while carrying an injured shoulder into the NRL finals.

Cleary played a career-low of 13 games in the season as he battled an injured shoulder, along with two separate hamstring injuries.

It was widely speculated that he would get surgery straight after the Panthers’ premiership victory over the Melbourne Storm on Sunday, but his father and coach has now revealed he is jetting off to see Fowler.

Ivan Cleary told Channel 7 at the club’s annual awards night on Tuesday that his son’s surgery would not be taking place for a “couple of weeks”.

“He’s heading overseas to see Mary, spend some time with her, and then he’ll get it done,” Ivan said.

Fowler, who plays for Manchester City in the Women’s Super League, just came off a 2-0 win against West ham United on the same day as Cleary’s four-peat.

The Matildas star wasn’t in attendance for the NRL Grand Final due to her football duties. Cleary now has the opportunity to watch her play live while he visits her in England.

It was a “pretty hectic” 48 hours for the master coach with his Panthers men claiming a fourth straight premiership on Sunday, making them arguably the greatest NRL team ever.
