The new curling season for 2024–25 has begun, just like that.
(Did the last one truly come to an end?)
The Baden Masters in Switzerland is the customary opening event of the World Curling Tour every year. A few games from the 2024 edition are currently available on YouTube.
This is a men’s tour stop, and Joel Retornaz of Italy is the current winner. The Italians are currently playing the Marc Pfister side, who used to be from Switzerland but are now playing for the Philippines, in their opening encounter.
The World Curling Tour
Niklas Edin of Sweden, Yannick Schwaller of Switzerland, and five potent Scottish squads, featuring Bruce Mouat, are among the 20 teams competing.
The competitors Korey Dropkin of the USA and Jordan Chandler of Canada will be fighting jet lag.
Baden is starting earlier and earlier in the summer, as evidenced by the fact that it used to take place in early September and closer to the end of August.
Recently, Chaska, Minnesota held a U.S. special playdown in North America. In addition to a variety of seminars, a 2025 mixed doubles Olympic pre-trials qualification shootout, and a Hall of Fame induction (for Deb McCormick’s 2003 world champions), USA Curling coupled their annual meeting with these events.
Four couples from each of the ten competing teams advanced to the Olympic trials in Lafayette, Colorado in February.
The first three places went to Sarah Anderson/Andrew Stopera (8-1), Madison Bear/Aidan Oldenburg (7-2) and Clare Moores/Lance Wheeler (7-2).
Then, in a playoff for the last berth, Taylor Anderson-Heide/Ben Richardson triumphed over Lexi Daly/Luc Violette.
