Laurent Nicollin – President of Montpellier – has just revealed that he’s rejected a bid from Chelsea for Elye Wahi, with Tottenham now set to make an offer.
The 50-year-old made the comments when speaking to Midi Libre.
So, what is the latest on Chelsea target Elye Wahi? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, Chelsea made a €25m (£21m) bid for the France Under-21 international on Wednesday.
That was according to Mohamed Toubache-Ter.
However, it appears Chelsea have been unsuccessful with their opening offer for Wahi.
Nicollin told Midi Libre: “The amount proposed was not up to our expectations.”
Now – according to Midi Libre – Tottenham are expected to make an offer of their own as the north Londoners attempt to hijack Chelsea’s negotiations to sign Wahi.
Spurs are said to be on the lookout for new strikers amid doubts over the future of Harry Kane, and have identified the 20-year-old as someone who could replace the England international.
Wahi impressively scored 19 goals in Ligue 1 last season, more than Neymar and Lionel Messi managed to net in France’s top-flight.
Why Tottenham could beat Chelsea to Elye Wahi
There is one reason – in our view at least – why we think Wahi could choose Tottenham over Chelsea.
However, Tottenham seem to have Wahi in their first-team plans for next season as they prepare to make a bid, and the prospect of playing in the Premier League immediately could tempt the wonderkid to join Spurs.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Chelsea’s pursuit of the Frenchman is starting to become a bit difficult.
