Ipswich Sign Rangers forward Tom Lawrence on 3years contract worth £45m

Rangers forward Tom Lawrence has emerged as a transfer target for Besiktas, Ipswich Town and Sheffield United, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported in their print edition (10 June, page 67) that with one year left on his Ibrox contract, the 30-year-old Welshman could potentially have his pick of clubs this summer.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst signed Lawrence during his time in the Gers’ dugout and is now keen to reunite with the wideman in Turkey having recently been appointed as the new Besiktas manager.

Tom Lawrence to leave Rangers this summer

Rangers haven’t seen close to the best of Lawrence during his two seasons so far at Ibrox, making just 40 appearances in all competitions during an injury-hit and inconsistent spell.

His time on the pitch increased markedly last season, with 31 matches to 2022-23’s mere nine, albeit Lawrence could only score three times, the same amount as in his maiden campaign.

Of his 23 Scottish Premiership appearances in 2023-24, only 12 were starts, netting just twice and being restricted to second-half bench cameos for much of the run-in under Philippe Clement.

Clement’s leading of a huge squad overhaul this summer has already seen movement in the final third, with Oscar Cortes returning on loan and Yusuf Kabadayi potentially arriving from Bayern Munich [The 4th Official].

Keeping the experience of a full international like Lawrence in the fold could be a shrewd move for the Belgian to make, but with him now being on the wrong side of 30 and his playing impact on the wane, there is arguably no better time for the Gers to cash in.
