Wolves now very close to sign ‘exceptional’ 2022 World Cup winner that could be a…………

Wolves are reportedly interested in signing Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez.

Wanderers fans are really hoping for new faces to arrive, with a number of key players having already departed the club this summer.

Ruben Neves, Nathan Collins and Conor Coady have all been sold, with Raul Jimenez soon to be announced by Fulham.

Adama Traore and Joao Moutinho also left at the end of their contracts.

Matt Doherty has signed on a free transfer, but the Republic of Ireland is the only addition so far.

But perhaps Wolves could finally be about to do some business…

Wolves interested in Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez, talks have commenced

According to Argentinian journalist César Luis Merlo, who has a hefty 282,000 following on X (Twitter), Wolves are in talks with Betis over a potential deal for the 29-year-old.

He says at the moment there are just talks and that nothing is close to being finalised.

Rodriguez has been with Betis since 2020 after transferring from Club America, the former team of Raul Jimenez.

He’s clocked up 144 appearances for the Spanish outfit, playing the vast majority of Betis’ matches over the last three years.

Rodriguez has international pedigree, representing Argentina 29 times.Guido Rodriguez On The Rise: Argentine Assumes Pivotal Role For Real Betis

He was a part of the World Cup-winning squad last December. He only played 57 minutes of the nation’s second group stage game against Mexico.

The defensive midfielder has just one year left on his contract with Betis, which potentially points to a cut-price deal.

Guido Rodriguez could be a great addition by Wolves

We shall see if this is a player Wolves will be able to afford. The fact he’s only got a year left is encouraging, though.

Rodriguez has been an established player for Betis for a while now.

And a previous feature from PFSA paints him out to be quite a good all-round midfield player. They say Rodriguez is ‘exceptional on the defensive end’ and that he has ‘superb reading of the play, positional sense and judgement’.

Seemingly, he is quite an effective presser and is someone who is good at winning the ball back.

But PFSA say he’s decent offensively, too. Apparently he has a fairly wide range of passing. He is ‘efficient’ with his short passing, and can hit ‘expansive’ passes that break the lines. And he can also play those raking long balls out to the wings.

He sounds like a potentially decent option considering Wolves lost Ruben Neves earlier this summer
